As a Windsor engagement photographer, I love helping couples choose a location that feels like them rather than simply choosing the most popular spot.
Windsor and Essex County offer an amazing variety of locations for engagement photography — from waterfront views and beautiful gardens to historic neighbourhoods and Lake Erie beaches.
Here are some of my favourite engagement photo locations in Windsor and Essex County to consider for your session.
1. Willistead Park — Classic & Romantic
If you’re looking for romantic engagement photos in Windsor, Willistead Park is one of the first locations I would recommend.
The mature trees, winding pathways and historic surroundings create a timeless atmosphere that works beautifully for couples. There is also plenty of variety within the park, so your gallery can include both close-up romantic portraits and more natural walking photographs.
The park surrounding Willistead Manor contains more than 300 trees, while the formal Paul Martin Gardens offer an especially elegant setting with flowers and garden pathways.
Best for: romantic, elegant and timeless engagement photography.
2. Dieppe Gardens & Windsor Riverfront — Waterfront & Sunset
For couples who love waterfront engagement photos, the Windsor Riverfront is hard to beat.
The Detroit River, skyline views, gardens, walking paths and open spaces give us plenty of opportunities for different looks during one engagement session. The riverfront trail stretches for more than 5 km and connects several scenic areas, including Dieppe Gardens and other waterfront gardens.
Dieppe Gardens itself features colourful plantings, fountains and waterfront scenery, making it a beautiful choice for romantic portraits.
This is also one of my favourite types of locations for golden-hour engagement photography in Windsor.
Best for: sunset photos, waterfront portraits, Detroit skyline views and relaxed candid moments.
3. Jackson Park — Gardens & Flowers
If you love flowers, greenery and classic garden photography, Jackson Park is a beautiful choice.
The park is known for its formal gardens, fountains and seasonal flowers. The City of Windsor also describes Jackson Park as one of the city’s popular wedding locations, with beautiful gardens and flowering areas throughout the seasons.
Spring and summer are particularly beautiful here, but the changing foliage can also create a gorgeous setting for fall engagement photos.
Best for: romantic garden engagement photos, colourful spring and summer sessions, and couples who love flowers.
4. Malden Park — Natural & Scenic
If you want your Windsor engagement photography to feel natural and relaxed, Malden Park is a great option.
The large park offers open spaces, trees, pathways and elevated areas, giving us several different backgrounds without having to drive from one location to another.
It is especially nice for couples who don’t want their entire session to feel posed. We can walk, talk, laugh and move around while capturing natural moments along the way.
Best for: natural engagement photos, relaxed couples, outdoor sessions and a variety of backgrounds.
5. Reaume Park & Coventry Gardens — Romantic Waterfront
Located along Windsor’s east riverfront, Reaume Park and Coventry Gardens offer a beautiful combination of gardens, greenery, walking paths and waterfront scenery.
This can be a great alternative if you want romantic waterfront engagement photos in Windsor but prefer a quieter and more garden-like setting.
Best for: romantic couples, gardens, waterfront portraits and soft evening light.
7. Colchester Beach — Lake Erie & Golden Hour
If you’re willing to drive about 45 minutes from Windsor, I highly recommend considering Colchester Beach in Essex County.
Colchester Public Beach
Located on the north shore of Lake Erie, Colchester offers something completely different from the typical Windsor engagement session. You get sandy beach, open water, the harbour and a relaxed lakeside atmosphere all in one location.
It’s especially beautiful around sunset, when the light over Lake Erie creates a soft, romantic look.
For couples who want their engagement gallery to feel like a little getaway rather than a traditional city photoshoot, this is one of my favourite options.
Best for: beach engagement photos, sunset sessions, romantic waterfront photography and couples who don’t mind a short drive outside Windsor.
